KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan on Tuesday announced holding the general workers meeting on February 16, in order to take the party activists into confidence over the ongoing situation within the party ranks and get assent from them regarding the party’s coordination committee decision to replace Farooq Sattar with Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui as the convener of the party.

The handout issued from MQM-Pakistan Bahadurabad faction stated that the party summoned the general workers meeting at Nazimabad Pray ground on Friday. The meeting would be addressed by the MQM Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and other members of the coordination committee.

The coordination committee had directed the party activists at district, town and union council level to ensure their presence in the meeting.

The MQM-P’s Bahadurabad factions decision to hold general workers meeting came after the Farooq Sattar led MQM-P faction had submitted an application with the Election Commission of Pakistan informing that the general workers meeting held on Feb 11 had approved his decision to dissolve MQM-P Coordination committee along with its deputy conveners.

It also informed that a fresh intra-party election are scheduled to be held on February 17 in order to decide the new setup of the party and take fresh mandate.

Meanwhile, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said that the coordination committee is empowered to remove the convener of the party and this was not the first time it had happened.

“Similar situation arise at the time when the coordination committee removed Nadeem Nusrat as the convener of the party, following the events that took place after August 22 situation,” he said.

He said that MQM-Pakistan is led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and he is the convener of the party.

The Election Commission accepted our decision to remove Nadeem Nusrat at that time and therefore, it should follow the same path now also.
