WAZIRABAD/GUJRANWALA - Seven persons died and eight others suffered multiple injuries in head-on collision between a Gujrat-bound passenger van and Lahore-bound bus here early Tuesday morning.

The gruesome accident occurred on the left bank of River Chenab on Old GT Road near Haripur Railway Station, some 4km from Wazirabad, the rescue and police confirmed.

According to police and Rescue 1122 officials, the van (LRT-4800) was on the way to Gujrat with passengers onboard, when it collided with a Lahore-bound Bus (LFS-01) at Old GT Road link way. Resultantly six persons identified as Irfan, resident of Chiniot; van driver Gulzar Hussain, son of Ali Muhammad, van conductor Parvez of Naushehra; Rafi of Gujranwala; Zarat of Gujjar Khan; Abdul Rahim of Allahabad, Wazirabad and Qamar.

Rescue 1122 personnel reached the site and rescued the injured. The rescuers rushed the injured to THQ Hospital Wazirabad and shifted the dead bodies to Charnel House of the hospital.

Later, three of the injured were referred to DHQ Hospital Gujranwala due to their critical condition.

DSP Dost Muhammad Khan and Assistant Commissioner Faisal Abbas Mangat reached the site and facilitated the rescue operation while MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema also supervised the rescue operation.
