KHANEWAL - Besides overcharging, the transporters have put the passengers’ lives at stake as they place petrol-filled cans and bottles in the public service vehicles behind the driver’s seat to supply fuel to engines due to unavailability of CNG, it is learnt.

The unsafe method of supplying fuel to engine may cause untoward incidents like fire eruption in the vehicles and the authorities concerned have taken no steps against the transporters in this regard. The civil society, government servants and traders have demanded that the district government of Khanewal should take a strict action against the responsible.

Khanewal is one of the main city of South Punjab and hundreds of people from all walks of life travel between Khanewal and other cities of the country, and hundreds of government and private employees also travel on daily basis. They are facing a lot of problems like overcharging, overloading, unsafe methods to utilise fuel direct from bottles instead of from belt in fuel tanks fixed in vehicles.

The transporters are overcharging by Rs1.60 to 2.00 per kilometer. In vans and buses overloading is also causing a lot of problems for the passengers. Khanewal RT Secretary Muhammad Masood Minhas said that the matter was not in his knowledge and he would personally check all these issues, adding that a action would be taken against the transporters using the method.
