LAHROE  - The talks process between the government and the Taliban is still possible despite the registration of murder case of CID SP Chaudhry Aslam against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Maulvi Fazlullah and spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid.
The dialogue process is getting delayed only because the new TTP chief has yet to perform the bait – an expression of allegiance.
According to former PML-N leader Javed Ibrahim Paracha, who is in contact with both the government and the Taliban , peace talks would not be possible for at least two to three months. He said the TTP chief would not be in the position of passing any order to the shura until he performed the process of bait.
Paracha further said the Taliban had not worked out any line of action for negotiations with the government; in fact they had not even taken it up yet.
According to him, the TTP chief, who is somewhere in Afghanistan, cannot be contacted due to inclement weather, by those tasked by the government with facilitating the talks process.
“In this situation, when the Taliban have not even given any indication for talks, one being over-optimistic would just be a non sense,” he said.
Paracha said the federal and Sindh governments were not on the same page as regards talks with the Taliban .
The situation has taken a new turn after registration of FIR of SP Aslam murder against TTP chief Maulvi Fazlullah and spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid.
Political analysts believe the move could further widen the gulf between the government and TTP.  However, commenting on the situation, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Samiul Haq leader Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqui said currently no talks were under process. And, he added, when there was nothing on ground, the murder case against TTP chief and spokesmen did not make any difference.
He said it seemed as if the government was advancing towards an operation against TTP.  Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl spokesperson Jan Achakzai said there had already been many FIRs registered against Fazlullah and Shahid. “The current FIR against Taliban chief and their spokesperson has nothing to do with peace talks,” he said of the murder case of SP Aslam. He said the dialogue process was still in a kind of limbo.
He said, “We need to make favourable environment for peace talks.”
He said being a bigger party, the government should make strategy for peace talks. He, however, said that the people of FATA should be taken on board and engaged in the peace process.
