Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed said here on Wednesday that early settlement of Kashmir issue and permanent end to ceasefire violations at the Line of Control the top priorities of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers convention in Mirpur Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he said that PM Nawaz had raised the same issues with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

The minister said that people of Mirpur sacrificed for the prosperity of Pakistan by submersing their ancestral homes under the water of Mangla Dam, which was unprecedented. He said that PML-N accepted results of 2011 elections in AJK and provided opportunity to the PPP government to complete its tenure.

He said that the federal government did not intervene in AJK politics to keep PPP from becoming a political victim. He added that even the coffin-clad PSF youth protested against the massive corruption of the incumbent Prime Minister of AJK and termed him as incompetent and corrupt.

He said that complaints of AJK Prime Minister about criticism against him were unjustified. He said that Neelum-Jhelum project was delayed by the PPP government despite spending huge funds on the project while the transmission lines project was not even started. He added that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered construction of transmission lines and timely completion of the project. He said that rapid development in AJK will be possible only if PML-N forms government in the state. He urged the people of AJK to give PML-N a chance to serve them. He said that people of AJK will salute Mr Sharif after the rapid development under his party’s government.

“The federal government has launched development projects worth Rs100 billion in Azad Kashmir and the people of AJK will soon reap the fruits of tremendous development,” Rasheed said.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir, Dr Asif Kirmani, the special assistant to the prime minister, Farooq Haider, the president of PML-N AJK, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, the deputy leader of opposition in AK legislative assembly, Shah Ghulam Qadir, secretary general PML-N AJK, former minister Naheed Tariq, and other party leaders also addressed the convention.

Barjees Tahir said that PPP government has embezzled funds of the Liberation Cell through its corrupt practices and is afraid of accountability by the people if AJK in upcoming election. He said that AJK needs leadership with vision which only PML-N leaders could provide.

Addressing the convention, Dr Asif Kirmani said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed pleasure over successful workers convention in Bhimber and sent a message to people of Mirpur that an era of prosperity is going to dawn in AJK under PML-N government. He said Nawaz Sharif had special affection for the people of AJK, especially Mirpur. He said AJK ministers’ criticism on Barjees Tahir was unjustified adding that PPP leaders would be held accountable for the people of AJK in upcoming general election in the state. He said benefits of economic development underway in Pakistan under PML-N government would reach the people of AJK.

“PPP leaders undermined the Kashmir issue by converting it into a bilateral dispute by signing Simla Accord with India but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif revived the Kashmir issue at the international forums and will resolve it under the UN resolutions,” Kirmani said.
