LAHORE  - DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf yesterday ordered the field police officers to intensify clampdown on proclaimed offenders and drug-pushers.

The city operations police chief said the divisional police officers and beat officers are equally responsible since they are given special tasks to hunt down most wanted criminals.

Haider Ashraf issued these directions while addressing a meeting of the field officers at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh yesterday. The officers also reviewed in-detail the crime and law and order situation in the Iqbal Town police division. Iqbal Town SP Dr Muhammad Iqbal, DSPs, and all the SHOs were present in the meeting.

The DIG warned the station house officers that there would be zero tolerance against crime burking. The police were directed to intensify armed patrolling in the crime-prone localities. On this occasion, the DIG admonished the SHO of Shera Kot police station over rising crime incidents in his jurisdiction. The beat officers were directed to use smart-phone applications for maintaining criminals’ record.

The DIG said that the beat officers would be held accountable if they failed to control street crimes in their beats. The officials of the Police Response Unit were directed to ensure quick response to Rescue-15 calls besides ensuing effective patrolling across the city.
