Islamabad - The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has released Rs 140 million for payment of salaries to the teachers working on daily wages in the federal capital.

The National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) was further informed that steps are under way to regularise these teachers in the light of the Islamabad High Court’s judgement.

The four-member bench comprising Chairman Justice (Retd) Ali Nawaz Chohan, Member ICT Chaudhry Mohammad Shafiq, Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Yahya Ahmad and Member (Minorities) Ishaq Masih Naz, directed Federal Directorate of Education, Capital Administration & Development Division and AGPR to appear before the commission on the next date of hearing to further enlighten it on the issue of daily wage teachers.

The commission expressed dismay over snail-paced development over number of issues and assured the teachers that their problems will be addressed soon.

The official of ministry of religious affair and interfaith harmony informed the commission that the identity of four Pakistanis, expired during Mina stampede, could not be traced, adding that it is expected that these people were in Saudi Arabia to earn their livelihood due to which the ministry has not possessed their data.

The officials informed the bench that the Saudi government is investigating into the matter and the government of Pakistan is preparing recommendations following the incident of Mina and these proposals will be handed over to the Saudi government.

The commission was informed that a comprehensive strategy is being formulated to address the emergency situation and ensure safety and protection of Pakistani pilgrims.

The NCHR termed the report of interior ministry insufficient and directed joint secretary, department of interfaith harmony and other officials to appear before the commission for further clarification.

The minister was also directed to submit records of agreements signed with Saudi government on Haj, data of residential and transportation facilities for Hujjaj, data of Khuddam-ul-Hujjaj and the way of selection of trainers to the commission.
