Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar has urged the mediamen to observe journalistic ethics and refrain from sensationalising issues.

Administering oath of to newly elected office/ bearers of the Press Club/Union Journalists Hafizabad district, she said that they should be more careful while filing their stories. She said that she always welcomed positive criticism, and added that they should work for resolving the problems of the masses of the area and file true and factual stories which should not become bad name to the area and the country.

She assured them that the district would also be included in the National Health Programme. She said that the local problems would be resolved. She said that the country had overcome numerous problems during the past few years, and added that the present government would steer the country out of the prevalent conditions by resolving problems of the masses within next few years. She also assured that efforts would be made to provide Housing Colony for the local journalists.

She congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the club and hoped that they would continue their efforts for the betterment of the journalist community and uplift of the area. Earlier, new chairman Imtiaz Ahmad Taj thanked the minister and DCO for providing funds for the renovation of the Press Club. He hoped that that they would continue to cooperate in providing more funds to the club.

Prominent among those who also addressed the function included MPA Malik Fayyaz Ahmad Awan, DCO Muhammad Usman and Rashed Amin Hijazi.

Earlier, the minister administered oath to Chairman Imtiaz Ahmad Taja, Sr. Vice President Hafiz Muhammad Azizur Rehman, Vice Chairman Sh Muhammad Zahid, Generl Secretary Mazhar Hussain Warraich, Joint Secretary Irfan Nemat, Finance Secretary Ahmad Nawaz Rattu, Office Secretary Gulzar Hussain Chohan and Information Secretary Sajid Abbas Awan.

STRIKE: Gepco employees observed complete strike as a protest against the killing of Executive Engineer Mazhar Iqbal in Gujranwala.

WAPDA Hydro Electric Labour Union Hafizabad Division Chairman Shafqat Mahmood called upon the RPO Gujranwala to ensure early arrest of the assailants without further delay otherwise the employees would be constrained to observed indefinite strike and sit-in demonstration. A condolence meeting was also held here in which the employees offered ‘Fateh Khawani’ and prayed for the rest of the departed soul in eternal peace.

DEATH: Qazi Hammad Maqbool, a renowned educationist and principal of a private institution, died here after brief illness. He was laid to rest in the local graveyard.

The funeral was attended by large number of teachers, traders and local citizens. Mother of Haji Bilal Ahmad, a prominent businessman of Hafizabad died here after protracted illness.
