LAHORE - Presiding over the Cabinet Committee Meeting on Law and Order Saturday, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned the police against delay in arrest of the rapist and killer of Zainab.

“No excuse will be accepted. I am under extreme stress because of this case and I just want the accused arrested, ” he said during the meeting that was briefed by IGP about progress in the case.

 “Facts should be brought to the public after the arrest and the victim family should get justice. The killer can’t escape justice,” the CM said.

The seven-year-old girl went missing on January 4 and then her body was found on a heap of garbage on January 9, locals said. The FIR of her going missing was registered on the complaint of a family member, a day after her abduction. The rape and murder sparked violent protests in Kasur which claimed at least two more lives on January 10. 

The chief minister told the participants in the meeting that all requirements of justice would also be fulfilled in the cases where two protesters were killed allegedly by police.

He said he will personally monitor the progress on both cases. He directed the IGP to visit Kasur daily to review the progress on both cases and for the purpose, IGP can use the CM’s helicopter.

He also directed the Punjab Forensic Laboratory DG and the additional home secretary home department to immediately leave for Kasur. Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and other high-ups alos attended the meeting.

Separately, Turkish Consul General Serdar Deniz paid a farewell call on Chief Minister. The chief minister paid tributes to the Turkish consul general for playing constructive role in promoting Pak-Turkish relationships.

Talking to the Turkish consul general, the CM said: “Pakistan and Turkey have friendly and brotherly bilateral ties and the people of both countries have sentiments of love and purity for each other.  Turkey has always supported Pakistan in case of calamities like floods and earthquakes. Turkey was the first country to support Pakistan after the tweet of the US president. Turkish companies are working in Pakistan specially Punjab.  Brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkey have been transformed into bilateral trade and due to the economic cooperation the friendship between both countries has become everlasting. He said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister and other leadership have always provided corporation to Pakistan, and the government and the people of Pakistan pray for the bright future of Turkey.”

The Turkish consul general said he remained appointed to this post for two years and CM Shehbaz has always extended support to him. He said he will always remember the time spent in Lahore. He thanked the chief minister for love and respect, and called him a ‘seasoned politician’.

He said the chief minister has played very effective for in promoting Pak-Turkey ties. He said the chief minister enjoys profound respect of the Turkish leadership. Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran, vice chairman Punjab Investment Board, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan and others concerning officials were also present on the occasion.
