LAHORE - Following a probe into financial matters of the district governments and surfacing of corruption, worth billions of rupees therein, the Punjab govt is all set to tighten its grip around nazims, district administration and contractors found involved in it. Local Bodies department, in this connection, has sent 58 references with complete proofs, of corruption worth Rs 850 million concerning 19 district and local bodies to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in the first stage. Orders have been issued the other day to register cases on three corruption case at Sargodha while the other references will be proceeded step by step. As per details 21 corruption cases of Multan district government, 5 cases of Rawalpindi, 6 of Sargodha, 5 of Okara, 4 of Nankana, 2 each of Kasur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Bahawalnagar along with one each of Sangla Hill, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan district governments have been sent to the anti-corruption department, which has issued orders to register a corruption case of Rs 5 million against District Live Stock Khushab, worth Rs 1.078 million against CCB Chairman Waheed and others and three cases of Rs 1.830 million corruption against district government. A corruption reference worth Rs 86.305 million against Shafqat Latif, Sub-Engineer Highways Sargodha has also been remanded back for re-inquiry. The other references on which cases have been instituted include corruption of Rs 129.862 million in terms of transport and purchase of medicines and Rs 98.94 million for livestock support services by City District Government Okara during 2008; corruption of Rs 86.35 million in purchase of machinery and Rs 8.6 million in construction of highways by CDG Mianwali; corruption of Rs 25.1 million by citizen community board Bahawalnagar and Rs 37 million in construction works during 2005-2008; corruption of Rs 3.42 million during 2006-07 in respect of construction of highways, water supply schemes and other development works by CDG Kasur; corruption of Rs 29.97 million in construction work and non-receipt of revenues worth Rs 50 million by Rawalpindi district government. The other cases include city District government of Faisalabad, Jhelum, T.T Singh, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal, Sialkot and Mandi Bahauddin. Complete proofs have been attached with the references, which will be proceeded step by step. Government has issued concrete orders to concerned departments in this regard.
