The Punjab government on Tuesday informed the Supreme Court that it wants to withdraw petition challenging Jammat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed's release. Punjab Govt said that they have taken this decision as the federal government could not supply enough evidence to back its appeal. This move comes just days after the Punjab government filed a petition in the SC challenging the Lahore High Court's order, which had freed the JuD supremo from the house arrest on June 2. The appeal has come just hours before the critical meeting between Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the NAM summit in Egypt.
