LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought reply from the Punjab government on a petition challenging cancellation of contracts awarded to contractors of the district government. The contractor, Abdul Qayum through his counsel submitted the district govt had awarded him a contract which was later cancelled by the Punjab govt. He said after abolishment of local bodies system in the Punjab the provincial govt cancelled all the contracts awarded by the district govet. The petitioners counsel pleaded that the provincial government had no jurisdiction to interfere in the affairs of district government as the latter enjoyed complete protection against external infringement. He said that it was unlawful act of the Punjab government which aimed at victimising the contractors who were working with the district government. Justice Yawar Ali Khan after hearing the arguments sought reply from the Punjab govt and directed a law officer to ensure submission of govts reply till July 16.
