Hospitals to get 100 ambulances

KARACHI – Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed Friday said agreement for purchase of ambulances for hospitals and medical institutions in Karachi had been finalised with the Scotland Ambulance Services.He revealed this during a meeting with the head of the Scotland Ambulance Services in the presence of senior officers from Pakistan and Scotland. The administrator said KMC at present was running 13 big hospitals and 346 small medical institutions including maternity homes, dispensaries and clinics and for them, a good number of ambulances were required. He said the Scotland Ambulance Services had expressed readiness to provide the reconditioned ambulance including necessary equipment at total cost of Rs0.4 million for each ambulance. He further said that Karachi being an international city needs at least 200 ambulances. The administrator said many important medical institutions like KMDC, KIHD, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Home, Spencer Eye Hospital, Sarfaraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital and Leprosy Hospital were run by KMC and considering the law and order conditions in Karachi, it became essential to provide the ambulances to all the hospitals and small medical aid units so that the patients in critical condition could to taken to the hospitals on time.He said under the agreement 100 ambulances would be procured for Karachi hospitals. He added that KMC spends Rs3974.64million on the medical and health facilities and a sum of Rs2167.13million for the provision of municipal services to citizens.He said that the delegation led by Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad was currently visiting Britain and signed MoUs for betterment of Karachi, development and progress of the City and improvement of educational standard and welfare of people. The head of the Scotland Ambulances Services said the citizens in Britain were provided with the best medical services including the ambulance services and likewise we want to provide the same quality of medical services to people in Karachi.
