Rawalpindi sees no let-up in crimes

RAWALPINDI – The robbers, dacoits and car lifters ruled over the city on Friday by hitting at two houses, looting cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones and wrist watches to the tunes of million of rupees and pilfering 2 vehicles and 3 motorcycles and snatching a motorbike at gunpoint from a citizen.
The rise in house robberies, day light dacoities and car lifting incidents not only swelled a wave of panic among the citizens but also put a question mark on performance of Rawalpindi police.
According to details, three unidentified muggers arrived at the house of one Muhammad Ghaus, located in the precinct of Police Station (PS) Airport, by scaling the wall and held the entire family members hostage on gunpoint. Later, the intruders collected gold jewellery weighing 5 tolas, 3 mobile phones and 3 precious wristwatches and run away. The victim house owner approached area police for help.
In a similar action, 4 thieves smashed into the house of a citizen namely Raja Tahir Usman at Scheme-III, the area controlled by PS Airport, and made off with Rs 100,000 cash, gold ornaments and 5 wrist watches. Usman lodged a complaint with police for legal action.
In yet another daring incident of street crime, two bandits loaded with lethal weapons intercepted a bike rider Abrar-ul-Haq in the limits of PS Race Course and point guns over him. Later, the muggers snatched the motorcycle (RIM-9441) from Abrar and fled from the crime scene. Police was contacted for legal action against the bandits.
On the other hand, the carjackers picked up a car (ID-955) of Mian Abdul Majid from the limits of Airport.
A Suzuki carry van (RIA-2487) has also been lifted by the auto theft gang from Wah Cannt.
A citizen Atta lodged a complaint with PS New Town that his motorcycle bearing registration number LEK-4234 was stolen whereas Muhammad Adeel told PS Sadiqabad officials that his applied for motorcycle was taken away by unknown vehicle lifters. Police, taking action on the complaints of the victims, registered cases and initiated probe with no arrest or recovery so far.
