Pak contingent to depart for US on 21st

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan contingent will leave for US on July 21 to participate in the Special Olympics in Los Angles. Talking to The Nation, Special Olympics Pakistan volunteer M Khaild Rehmani said: “A simple but impressive send off reception was held at Karachi for the special athletes who would take part in the Special Olympics which will commence from July 25 and 38 athletes and officials will leave from Karachi for Los Angles.” The athletes were provided more than eight-month training in five long duration camps held at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and sub camps at Wah Cant and Azad Kashmir. Pakistan will feature in nine events with 55 athletes (43 male and 12 female), 21 coaches and officials while total 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing 177 countries, along with 30,000 volunteers and 500,000 spectators will be part of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games being staged in Los Angeles from July 25, he added. “Michelle Obama will grace the opening ceremony while a number of other celebrities of the world will be part of the colorful inauguration ceremony of the world's largest sports and humanitarian event this year. The First Lady of the US serves as an honorary co-chair of the World Games with President Barack Obama,” Rehmnai concluded.
