VEHARI-A Burewala-based vendor, who supplies medicines to the Health Department, accused District Health Officer Naeem Sadiq Malih of taking RsRs520,000 as bribe to clear his medicine bills.

He said that the authorities concerned are not taking action against the DHO even after an inquiry conducted against the officer.

Vendor Ghulam Mustafa said that the DHO received Rs0.5 million through cheque and Rs20,000 as cash from him. He alleged that the DHO was being patronized by some politicians of the area. A letter AS (D)/CMO/16/OT-47/ was issued on may 17, 2016 from the Punjab Chief Minister office seeking a report after investigation.

Meanwhile, a report was submitted by the EDO health of Vehari against Dr Naeem. On the other side, dispenser Waseem in his statement admitted that he handed over the money withdrawn on the cheque amounting Rs0.5 million to the DHO.

Later, the case was referred to the director Anti-Corruption Multan by DCO office Vehari for necessary action but no action has so far been taken against the officer.

When contacted, DHO Naeem denied all the allegations, and said that he did not receive bribe from anybody rather dispenser Waseem received the payment. EDO Health Afzal Bashir said that he was looking into the matter and action would be taken after inquiry in case of the allegations proved.
