NA body directs ministry to suspend two officials

Misbehaving with lawmaker

ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges Wednesday directed the Ministry of Communications to immediately suspend two Post Services officials for misbehaving with a lawmaker.

The committee directed the Ministry of Communications to suspend Deputy Superintendent, Post Services Jhang region, Aqleem Hussain Luk and Deputy Post Master General, Jhang, Ch. Aslam and conduct an inquiry into the incident of misbehaviour with MNA Najaf Abbas Sial.

The lawmaker told the committee that the officials misbehaved with him when he called them and protested for inaugurating a post office without him.

The members showed dissatisfaction with the replies of both the officials, and ordered an inquiry under the supervision of a joint secretary.

The committee under the chair of Junaid Anwaar Chaudhry, directed the ministry to also hold an inquiry and submit the report within fifteen days. The committee directed that the Inquiry Committee may also fix responsibility if both the officials were found guilty. The Committee decided to take up the question of privilege in its next meeting.

The committee while discussing the amendments moved by MNAs Naeema Kishwar Khan and Dr. Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari in Rule 118 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 directed for obtaining views of the Legislation Wing of the National Assembly Secretariat before recommending for passage by the House. The Committee decided to take up the both the Amendments in its next meeting.

The Committee deferred the discussion on Question of Privileges moved by lawmakers Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur and Ch. Jafar Iqbal till its next meeting due to inability of the Movers to attend the meeting.
