ISLAMABAD - On a request of the National Accountability Bureau, the trial court judge issued late on Friday night arrest warrants for deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz before they were shifted to jail.
The NAB had requested the accountability court to release judicial warrants for Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
Deputy Prosecutor NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi stated that Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir released the arrest warrants for both Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. The NAB had contended that both Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had been sentenced by the accountability court, therefore, both the convicts should be jailed. The accountability court judge also deputed a magistrate to ensure implementation of the arrest warrants issued for Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. The magistrate being a representative of the accountability court will ensure implementation of the arrest warrants.
Earlier, the accountability court judge reached the Federal Judicial Complex late Friday night to issue the arrest warrant for Sharif and Maryam Nawaz after their return from London.
NAB Prosecutor Abbasi underlined that Sharif and Maryam Nawaz could not be produced in the accountability court due to security reasons.
The NAB team arrested Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from the Lahore airport after their return from London and later they were flown to Islamabad on a special plane from Lahore. The NAB after receiving arrest warrants shifted Sharif and Maryam Nawaz to Adiala Jail.
According to the arrest warrants, a copy available with The Nation, “Whereas at a session and concluded on 6th of July, 2018 by me (Muhammad Bashir, Judge, Accountability Court No.1, Islamabad) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, son of Muhammad Sharif, a resident of Shamim Farms, Jati Umra, Rawalpindi Road, Lahore in above cited Reference stands convicted and sentenced, accused Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is convicted as sentenced to Rigorous imprisonment for a term of ten years with fine 08 million pounds u/s 9(a)(v) NAO, 1999. He is also convicted and sentenced under offence cited at Serial No. 2 for one year. Both the sentences shall run concurrently. Accused/convict has been arrested, vide order dated 13-07-2018, it is allowed that said accused/convict be handed over to said Jail Superintendent in presence of Mr. Waseem Ahmed Sub Divisional Magistrate, Islamabad.”
It further said: “ This is to authorize and require you, the said Superintendent, to receive the said accused/convict into your custody in the said Jail, together with this warrants and there carry the aforesaid sentence into execution according to low.
