PML-N leaders booked for Nawaz's welcome rallies

As many as twenty cases have been registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and supporters for holding prohibited rallies to welcome ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to details, FIRs against former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz, Javed Hashmi, Raja Zafarul Haq, Mushahid Hussain, Uzma Bukhari, Saira Afzal Tarar, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Kamran Michael were lodged at Lohari police station.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Talha Barki and Khawaja Salman Rafique were also booked for breaching code of conduct.

On the other hand, cases against Rana Sanaullah, Mian Manan, Rana Afzal, Malik Nawaz and seven PML-N chairmen were also filed in Faisalabad.

It is to be mentioned here that on Friday, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz made a brief stay at Abu Dhabi airport, where their flight was delayed for nearly three hours. They landed at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport at 9:10 pm IST via Etihad Airways flight EY243.

They were flown to Rawalpindi in a special aircraft. The government had left no stone unturned to ensure the arrest goes as smoothly as possible. The Punjab government imposed Section 144 (unlawful assembly) in Lahore.

Security was tightened across the city and roads leading up to the airport were blocked to prevent PML-N workers from reaching there. Around 10,000 security personnel were deployed throughout the city to maintain law and order. Internet and mobile services were also suspended.
