RAWALPINDI - A civil judge here on Saturday issued arrest warrants of Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for not appearing before the court to face a case pending against him since 1998. The Judge Farrukh Shamsi issued the warrants of the minister and another Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Shahzada Kosar Gillani as they had not been appearing in the court where a criminal case has been pending against them for creating law and order situation at the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench. Both PPP leaders are on the bail in the case and a female lawyer representing Naheed Khan appeared in the court that would take up the case on July 18 for further hearing. According to available details, Airport police registered criminal cases against the PPP leaders and workers for misbehaving with the court staff while hearing the petitions filed by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Meanwhile, an anti terrorism court issued summons for the prosecution witnesses to record their statements in the case of assassination of former PM Benazir Bhutto and asked them to be present in the court on June 27. ATC-I Judge Malik Akram Awan who has been conducting the trial of five accused Aitzaz Shah, Sher Zaman, Abdul Rasheed, Rafaqat and Hasnain Gul in the Adiala Jail set June 27 next date for prosecution witnesses to record their statements. The accused had been trying to obtain copies of certain documents that are being produced to prosecute them. A division bench of the LHC last week directed the police to provide the accused all relevant documents including the investigation of Scotland Yard and video film of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto outside Liaqat Bagh on December 27 2007. The accused are yet to receive the required documents.
