Environment ignored

LAHORE - Like previous years, the Punjab Government has proposed meager allocations for a number of important sectors including Environment, Social Protection and Tourism in the fiscal year 2014-15.
The Punjab Government has proposed allocation of Rs139.7 million for Environment Protection in the FY2-14-15 as against Rs 116.7 million in the outgoing financial year.
In the previous year, budgetary estimates were revised from the original Rs116.7 million to Rs117.2 million. The Punjab Government, however, has proposed separate allocation of Rs190 million for carrying out different projects in Environment Protection sector under Annual Development Programme 2014-15.
The Punjab Government has proposed allocation of Rs4.5 billion for Social Protection in FY2014-15 as against Rs2.2 billion in the outgoing financial year.
Budgetary estimates of the last year were revised from the original Rs2.2 billion to Rs6.5 billion. As such allocation for Social Protection in FY2014-15 is lesser than the revised estimates for FY2013-14. The Punjab Government has allocated Rs1.8 billion for Social Protection under ADP.
