Gloom and doom

The Lahore High Court has announced the result of written competitive examination of civil judges-cum judicial magistrates for 696 posts this Thursday. The examination was conducted on March 29, 2015 but this time, the announcement of the result was shocking for the candidates as well as the people connected, it was announced online on Lahore High Court’s website. Candidates were directed to enter their National Identity Card number in the given blank box to check their results. The joys of the candidates who were shown as provisionally qualified for interview knew no bounds.
The result remained for few hours and the majority had checked their results but the same evening many candidates’ dreams when were dashed to dust as changes were made to the result. It was said that this was a technical error in the IT-System of the Lahore High Court website. All the previously qualified candidates were disqualified. This was really heart-wrenching for those who had seen themselves as qualified a few hours before. This can only happen in Pakistan. Can anyone ask why the concerned officials demonstrated such careless attitude? What is the justification behind this anomaly? Whether High Court is the right authority to conduct Civil Judges cum judicial Magistrates examinations?
This is not a mere glitch this is a gross negligence on the part of the concerned staff. It is requested to the Honourable Chief Justice of Lahore High Court that he should establish a team of senior lawyers on immediate basis, to check the transparency of the result, as well as the working of the concerned staff, as mere regret will not be able to provide relief.
MUHAMMAD YASIR KAYANI,
