Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently inaugurated the green line bus project in Karachi to reduce the traffic issues in the city. Unfortunately, according to the latest reports, to clear way for this project about 18,000 trees would be chopped in its long route from Municipal Park to Nagin Chowrangi, touching some other areas as well.

A city like Karachi, which suffered a severe heat wave in 2015 in which hundreds of precious lives were lost, requires more plantation. Such development projects will prove fatal for the environment of the city.

The authorities concerned should take immediate and serious action against this imminent destruction of greenery.
