SIALKOT- Sialkot district officers during a meeting of District Anti-Drugs Committee stressed a need for rehabilitation of drugs addicts and affective measures to stop the usage of narcotics in the society.

They said that the addicts could be made useful citizens of the society through proper medical treatment, their rehabilitation, care, love, affection and the positive social attitude towards them. They said, “It is social and moral obligation of all of us to come forward and play our pivotal role in motivating the drugs addicts towards positive and healthy activities for making them useful citizens of the society besides curbing the menace of the drug addiction through taking some solid steps.”

The meeting was attended by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Asif Tufail, EDO (Education) Farooq, Deputy Director (Colleges) Suhaib Anwar, District Officer Social Welfare Sialkot Muzammal Yar, Superintendent Sialkot District Jail Asghar Muneer, ETO Sialkot Iftikhar Ahmed and the representatives of several non-profits. The DCO directed the officials concerned to launch an awareness campaign in Sialkot district to purge the society of drugs.

He also directed the officials to start working in halting the use of drugs in the educational institutions. He said that the students are the national asset and the future of the nation and provision of drugs-free educational atmosphere is their basic right and prime responsibility of the state.

He asked police officials to launch a vigorous drive against the drug traffickers and take stern legal action against them. He said that the drug traffickers are the killers of humanity and they should be dealt with sternly. He directed the concerned officials of education and community development departments to make efforts to observe the International Anti Drugs Abuse Day in on June 26 and arrange awareness walks and seminars in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils in active collaboration with the local NGOs.

GRANT RELEASED: The Punjab government has released a special grant of Rs360 million for the construction of 17km part of main Pasrur-Gujranwala Road from Satrah to Pasrur.

MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal stated this while talking to the newsmen here. He said that the construction of this main road has been started for providing better means of communication for the people.

He said that the Punjab government had also approved a project water filtration plants in all the villages of his electoral constituency for providing potable water facility at local level.
