KASUR-The citizens have been deprived of clean drinking water as water filtration plants, installed at different places in the district, are non-functional since long due to indifference of the Public Health Department.

During a survey conducted by this correspondent, the residents of different areas said that the water filtration plants, installed at different places in the district, are not functioning well due to alleged inefficiency of the Public Health Department. They said that the plants were installed by Punjab government in collaboration with civil society for providing potable water to the public. Since then, the department did not allocated necessary funds for repair or replacement of water-filters although the government has been providing millions of rupees to the department in the head of repair and rehabilitation to the plants. They blamed that the officials concerned allegedly have swallowed the funds allocated for the repair as a result these plants began supplying contaminated water.

The residents of Shehbaz Khan Road, Beron Kot Haleem Khan, Purana Lorry Adda, Kot Murad Khan, Rukanpura, Gujranpura localities demanded the higher authorities to look into the matter and ensure repair to the poorly-functioning water filtration plants as soon as possible. They also demanded Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif to take action against the officials involved in this ‘grave’ irregularity.

When contacted, DCO Ammara Khan assured immediate replacement of the water-filters and making the filtration plants function properly.
