LAHORE (PR) - Electricity/Wapda workers have urged the caretaker prime minister to cancel the decisions of raising the prices of petrol and diesel and check rapid devaluation of rupee in order to save the poor from the further price hike of essential commodities.
Instead, they said, the government should recover the taxes from the elite of the country and get remitted the deposits of more than 200 billion dollars in the foreign banks and adopt National Economic Self Reliance Policy. They also urged all the political parties to adopt such election manifestos, which ensure the elimination of poverty, unemployment, irrational gap between the rich and poor and also ensure the fundamental rights of the workers. They also called for raising minimum wages to Rs30000 per month and social protection pension at least 20000 under Social Security Scheme Ordinance. They made these demands through a resolution in a meeting of Wapda/electricity workers held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall Lahore under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA.
The meeting was also addressed by Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of Union, who urged Lesco management to supply standard safety equipments and raising training standards of the line staff. He also thanked CEO LESCO and chairman WAPDA and chairman BOD LESCO for accepting the demands of the union.
