ECP meeting on Elections Amendment Bill, 2020 today

ISLAMAMAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is all set to hold today (Monday) an important meeting over the “Elections Amendment Bill, 2020” passed by National Assembly last week.

The meeting of the Commission which is to be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja will hold a detailed discussion over the bill and its impacts.

A senior official of ECP told The Nation that the Commission will hold a very important and crucial meeting to discuss the bill in detail and observe the changes going to take place due to this bill. It must be noted that the Elections Amendment Bill, 2020 was presented by Adviser to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan. The bill contains dozens of amended clauses.

The important aims of the bill are to bring electoral reforms regarding the voting right for overseas Pakistanis, the open ballot for Senate polls, use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), more financial autonomy to ECP and sections to ensure transparent and fair elections.
