LAHORE  - A Judicial Magistrate of Model Town Courts on Wednesday declared an ex–SHO Ichra police station and two wardens as proclaimed offenders for repeatedly defying courts orders on a private complaint filed by a journalist whom they tortured and manhandled.

Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Irfan Basra was hearing the case. The judge expressed dismay over repeated violation of court’s orders.

Six wardens including Sharafat Ali Rao, Rizwan and Najeeb severely tortured journalist Jahangir Hayat, broke his mobile, damaged his bike and stole helmet while he was discharging his professional duties at the Rehmanpur underpass near Standard Chartered Bank in 2013.

The wardens in connivance with the SHO Husnain Hadir Shah, who had an old grudge with the journalist, registered a fake FIR against him and ignored the application, filed by the victim journalist.

However, the journalist approached the court seeking directions to SHO Husnain Hadir Shah for not registering FIR against two wardens and three other officials accused of torturing and damaging his motorcycle and mobile and stealing his helmet.

The court ordered the police to produce the accused SHO Husnain Hadir Shah, wardens Sharafat Ali and Rizwan handcuffed in the court on April 11.
