Army’s distancing itself from peace talks with Taliban proves that both the government and armed forces are not on the same page as Nawaz Sharif has only been given leadership not the power to take decisions. All aid from the west is based on one point how we take their agenda forward.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) central leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmad expressed the views while talking to the media at the residence JUI-F local leader Sajjad Ramay here on Thursday.

He said that according to Article 230 of the Constitution, Islamic Ideological Council (IIC), having representation of all schools of thoughts, had been tasked with making recommendations for the guidance of the National and Provincial assemblies members. The Constitution, through IIC wants to ensure legislation to be made according to Quran and Sunnah and the government is bound to debate its recommendations in Parliament for enacting laws, he pointed out and added that unfortunately some ‘immature’ politicians were raising eyebrows over IIC recommendations which was lamentable.

“PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari while criticizing, has termed the IIC for recommendations on Islamic law for more than one marriage as ‘Draconian law’ whereas his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had married thrice,” the JUI-F leader cited. He declared that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s terming of the Quran and Sunnah’s decision as “Draconian law” made him liable to be punished under Section 6 of Constitution.

Hafiz Hussain observed that before the general elections, Tehreek-e-Taliban had declared four persons including Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Munawar Hassan as their representatives for negotiations with the Army, adding that now the then arbitrator was the prime minister of Pakistan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman was his ally at the Centre while Imran Khan’s PTI and Munawar Hassan-led Jamaat-e-Islami were sharing power in KPK. He said that armed forces had refused to give their representation in negotiations that’s why talks could not be started so far.

“The government should tell the nation whether or not the committee constituted for talks with TTP has started negotiations or not and if not then the committee should inform the masses about the reasons behind its failure,” he argued.

The JUI-F leader claimed that meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan was not for strengthening the dialogue process rather it aimed at pave the way for the operation to move forward.
