Being arranged by the district administration, Canal Mela would be organised on the theme of “Rang-e-Baharan” from April 10 to 12 with the arrangements of various competitions among the universities, colleges, schools and industries.

During a meeting, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said that the Canal Mela was the continuity of Jashna Baharan celebrations for the amusement of the public. He said that entertainment would be provided for the public through different events to be held at Canal Rakh Branch.

He invited the universities, colleges, schools and industrial units for participating in the festival by placing the floats in the canal. He announced cash prizes for position holders of the competitions. The DCO advised the PHA officers to specify sections of the canal for the participants for landing the floats in the water.

MNA Main Abdul Manan said that the government was providing opportunities for the public for their entertainment and enjoyment for which festivals were being arranged.  He said that the Mela remained very successful in the previous years as a large number of people had thronged the canal banks to witness the festival. He urged the participants to present attractive and colourful floats by utilising their skill for the entertainment of the people.

PHA Vice Chairman Muhammad Akbar Ghauri said that the city was being decorated with seasonal flowers while floral carpets were established at Jinnah Garden, D Ground and Kaleem Shaheed Park in connection with the Jashan-e-Baharan. He said that PHA would play its role to make the canal festival a success. The participants of the meeting expressed their determination to take part in the canal festival, and said that Canal Mela would be made attractive with different ideas.
