Be ready for LB polls, Zardari asks party

ISLAMABAD - PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari after successfully grabbing the Chairman Senate slot for his party’s senator has now turning his focus towards forthcoming local bodies’ polls in KP due this year.
Asif Ali Zardari has asked the party activists to get ready for the forthcoming local bodies polls due this year and reach out to the people.
“I will soon visit Peshawar to meet party workers ahead of the local bodies’ polls,” during a meeting with delegation comprising legislators and party office-bearers of KP led by provincial President Senator Khanzada Khan that called on him in Zardari House. Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and vice president PPP Sherry Rehman also attended the meeting. He asked the provincial chapter of the party to undertake the ground work for this purpose. Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the co-chairman made it clear the PPP wanted elections to all tiers of local bodies on party basis and asked party leaders to draw up committees at various levels to hunt suitable candidates and plan electioneering campaign. Zardari also directed former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and vice president Sherry Rehman to visit Peshawar ahead of his own visit to KP to prepare ground and assist the provincial President Khanzada Khan and cabinet for mobilisation of the party at grass roots level.
Asif Ali Zardari said that local bodies are the nurseries of democracy and it was essential that elections to these nurseries were held on party basis. He commended the party leaders and workers in the province for carrying out political work and despite militants’ threats and heavy odds.
“You should remember that your fate as well as the fate of the party is in the hands of people and this realisation should serve as your political compass,” he told the delegation.
