LAHORE - A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Friday asked Attorney General of Pakistan to assist the court in a petition seeking direction to the Punjab government to publish judicial inquiry report of Model Town incident and adjourned the proceedings until March 27.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan heard the case.

Some members of the civil society, Idara Minhajul Quran and others had filed the petition submitting that the government deliberately concealing Model Town inquiry report from the public.

The petitioners said that the government, it seemed, was spoiling the efforts made by the inquiry tribunal in Model Town incident. They said that the government, later, constituted a committee to review the tribunal’s report which was totally unlawful as a retired judge cannot review the report made by a sitting judge.

Justice Khan observed that the court had to see first whether the constitution of the judicial tribunal was constitutional.

At this, petitioners’ counsel said justice could not render to martyrs of the Model Town incident if the establishment of the judicial tribunal was declared unconstitutional.

The bench said to the counsel not to be sentimental as the courts decide the cases according to law. The bench allowed more time to a deputy attorney general to submit details about all notifications previously issued for the constitution of the judicial commission or tribunals. The court will resume hearing on March 27.
