LAHORE - ECO Azadi is arranging first End-Slavery Conference at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club today.

The conference is aimed at bringing government, academia and other stakeholders on one platform to discuss and devise measures for the abolition of modern day slavery.

Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din and Minister Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar will be the chief guests.

Child and Forced Marriage, Bonded Labor, and Human Trafficking are the most widely used methods of enslaving people around the world. In 2014 the Global Slavery Index estimated 2,059,200 enslaved individuals in the country, ranking Pakistan in the top five states with the highest number of people in modern slavery, in absolute terms.

In support of the goals and targets set out by the United Nations as Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 8), ECO Azaadi endeavors to contribute to achieving the targets of taking operational and effective measures in eradicating modern day slavery.

ECO Azaadi, established as a Trust, is a bridging leadership platform for those who share the objective of ending slavery in Pakistan.
