LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif filed his nomination papers from NA-123,Lahore to contest by-polls on the last day of filing nomination papers. Hamza Shahbaz and Capt.Safdar Mahmood have also filed nomination papers from the same constituency as Nawaz's covering candidates. The NA-123 was vacated after Makhdoom Javed Hashmi left this seat because he had secured three National Assembly seats in February 18 polls while under Constitution one person can retain only one seat. Nawaz reached Sessions Court amid tight security in the evening. He was accompanied by several party MNAs and MPAs including Mian Marghub Ahmed, Naseer Ahmed Bhutta, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Kamran Michael, Ajasam Sharif, Imran Nazir, Dr Saeed Elahi. Besides, several party activists from  party's lawyers and Women Wing were also present on the occasion. The PML-N chief submitted his papers at 5:55pm before the court of Returning Officer Badrud Din Chaudhry. A large number of party activists gathered outside the courtroom who were holding placards and posters of Nawaz Sharif. PML-N activists were highly charged and remained chanting slogans 'Wazir e Azam Nawaz Sharif', 'Sher Aya Sher Aya', 'Go Musharraf Go'. Soon after filing the nomination papers, Nawaz left the court premises without talking to media persons who had been waiting for him in the hot weather. Hamza Shahbaz, son of PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif also submitted his nomination papers from NA-123 as the covering candidate of Nawaz. Hamza has also filed nomination papers from PP-141 and PP-154.  He had already submitted his papers from NA-119. Talking to media persons, Hamza Shahbaz said apparently there was no reason to reject papers of PML-N leaders but a person sitting in the Presidency was conspiring to destroy democratic process but he would fail because political forces are united against dictatorship. When asked that at one hand PML-N was quitting govt while on the other it was participating in polls, he said all areas have their representations in Assembly and there were many seats lying vacant, so the party was contesting on those seats. This is noteworthy that NA-123 is one of the most important constituencies of Lahore. The constituency was carved out in 2002 from the areas of previous NA-92 and NA-94. NA-92 possessed great significance because Mian Nawaz Sharif contested from this constituency in 1993 and won with a huge margin. He vacated the seat in by-polls and fielded his brother Abbas Sharif who also won the seat. The present NA-123 comprises major area of previous NA-92 and is still considered as stronghold of PML-N. In 2002 and 2008, PML-N fielded Javed Hashmi from this seat who won both the polls with a huge margin. Meanwhile the PML-N President Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif filed is nomination papers here Tuesday for PP-48 Bhakkar second in the court of Returning Officer, senior Civil Judge Muhammad Yaqoob. He was flanked by Raja Ashfaq Sarwar who also filed his nomination papers as the covering candidate for the same seat. After filing the nomination papers Shahbaz went to Niwani House where he addressed the workers and said that he was thankful for the confidence, they reposed in him. He said that people of Bhakkar would see the new era of revolutionary development. He was of the view that after being elected as Chief Minister of Punjab, he would serve the public.
