KARACHI - In continuation of PTA's drive against unauthorised mobile phone SIM retailers, PTA along with Sindh Police raided a number of retailers in Karachi on 13th May 2008. These violators were found selling SIMs in complete disregard to the procedures given out by PTA. The raids were conducted in Patel Para, Lasbella, albella (Nishtar Road), New Town, PIB Colony, Saddar, Clifton and Kemari areas and the violators were apprehended alongwith unauthorized SIMs of different mobile companies. PTA's Zonal Director Rizwan Ahmed Hydri informed that continuous warnings were issued to unauthorized retailers through print media against selling SIMs without proper authorization and without carrying out proper verification of subscribers' antecedents. He elaborated that as per PTA's policy; SIMs can only be sold by company Sales Centres, Franchisees and authorized Retailers after proper verification of antecedents of subscribers. Subscriber verification includes seeing of original NIC or CNIC, keeping a photocopy of it and filling of customer agreement form. The operation against illegal sellers of SIMs being carried out will shortly be extended other cities and towns of Sindh also. PTA has also requested to the customers to obtain SIMs after fulfilling all requisite formalities for a new connection to avoid any inconvenience.
