Karachi: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif has said that the army will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for protecting the borders and the public adding that the army will not tolerate terrorists and their supporters at any cost.

According to sources he expressed these views while chairing an apex committee meeting to review the National Action Plan (NAP) held at Karachi Corps Headquarters today.

The meeting took place a day after the barbaric terrorist attack on a bus carrying Ismaili community members in which 46 people were killed near Karachi s Safoora Chowrangi.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Ishratul Ibad, DG ISI, Corps Commander Karachi, DG Rangers, IG Sindh and other top officials were present in the meeting.

According to sources, during the meeting the overall law and order situation in Karachi and the Safoora incident were discussed in detail. Matters related to the steps taken by the Sindh government under the Action Plan were discussed in length.

The Intelligence agencies also gave their input on Safoora incident. It was decided in the meeting that a joint operation would be held by army, rangers, police and other security agencies to nab the culprits behind the incident.

Army Chief approved the decisive operation against terrorist elements and also approved several measures in this regard, sources said.

The apex committee also decided to set up Rangers` check posts at entry points of the metropolis. It was also decided to arrest suspects released on parole and take speedy action against banned organizations.

Steps regarding repatriation of Afghan refugees and other foreign nationals were also reviewed.
