LAHORE - Scattered rains and gusty winds caused considerable decrease in the mercury level in plains including Lahore yesterday evening, providing much needed relief to the people from the prevailing heat wave.
After a hot day, strong winds started blowing in the evening that followed by scattered rains.
In Lahore, gusty winds lowered the mercury in the evening, much to the relief of heat stricken people.
Prior to the gusty winds, the City remained in the grip of heat wave, causing people to avoid unnecessarily coming out that decreased traffic on otherwise busy roads. Lahore canal, as usual, attracted a large number of people including women and children. Not only youth but also elderly people were seen taking bath in the canal.
Maximum and minimum temperature was recorded 42 degree Celsius and 25C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 23 per cent.
According to the experts, low pressure area lies over north Balochistan and its trough extending southeastwards. A westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 2 to 3 days.
Local meteorological department has forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of rains and gusty winds for Lahore during the next couple of days.
Rain-thunderstorms with strong gusty winds are expected at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu divisions, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions), Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir and at few places in Zhob, Multan and D I Khan divisions.
