It refers to a heartrending incident which took place in Sukkur where a newly wed bride was brutally murdered by her husband on the very first night of her wedding on the mere suspicion that she was not a virgin.

It is troubling that the man took it upon himself to punish his wife in the name of “honour killing”. Was he a virgin himself? Besides, what if the poor girl got raped and chose to remain silent about it knowing that this society would wrongly hold her responsible for it.

I strongly oppose this incident and would like to request the responsible authorities to look into this matter. Also, the women protection bill is a remarkable measure and I beg for its urgent application because there is apparently a dire need of it.
