LAHORE - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has clarified a part of the interview of the Quaid Nawaz Sharif carried by DAWN on Saturday, stating that the statement has been grossly misinterpreted by the Indian media . “Unfortunately, a section of Pakistani electronic & social media has intentionally or unintentionally not only validated but has lent credence to the malicious propaganda of Indian media without going through the full facts of the statement”, said the party spokesperson.

The unnamed spokesperson noted that the PML-N being the country’s premier popular national political party and its Quaid needed no certificate from anybody on their commitment and capacity to preserve, protect and promote Pakistan’s national security.

“After all, it was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who, resisting all pressures, took the most important and most difficult decision on national security in Pakistan’s history by making the country a nuclear power in May 1998,” he further said.

Spokesperson also clarified the comments of PML-N Quaid about Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s role in the party’s election campaign, stating they were also being misinterpreted.

“Shehbaz Sharif is the elected President of PML-N, and, in this capacity, he is already in the forefront of the election campaign, taking the PML-N message to every nook and corner of the country. There is, therefore, no ambiguity regarding his role and future responsibilities,” he explained.

Also, the PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif chaired a party meeting at his Raiwind residence on Sunday.

Senior party leaders including PML-N President, Shehbaz Sharif, Pervez Rasheed, Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Power Minister Owais Leghari were present in the meeting besides the Assembly members hailing from South Punjab.

The participants discussed latest political situation and the issues relating to upcoming general elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif said that members of the PML-N were being threatened to change their loyalties.

He said that loyal party men were resisting this move by the undemocratic forces. “Only those have left [the party] who were never sincere with the party”, he added. He further stated that the PML-N govt had fulfilled all the promises made with the masses before 2013 elections.

He also said that record development work had been carried out in South Punjab which had no parallel in history.
