MALAKWAL/PHALIA Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gialni has said that whether he remains in his office or not, democracy and Constitution must remain. Gilani said To become PM or not is not important, the important thing is democracy should persist in the country, and he warned the Opposition that unconstitutional steps against an elected government would not be tolerated. He said his governments reconciliatory policy should not be construed as weakness, asking the 'elements looking for change to move no-confidence motion in the parliament or launch impeachment process against the president. But he cautioned all this should come in light of the constitution. The opposition may bring no-confidence move against me (the prime minister) or an impeachment motion against the president if it has developed certain disliking against the both, he said. If anyone does not like my face, he can opt for no-confidence motion but no one should dream of toppling the government through undemocratic, unconstitutional or underhand means, the PM said while addressing a public meeting after inaugurating various public development projects in Phalia and Malakwal tehsils of Mandi Bahauddin district on Sunday. The PPP critics must know that it had come into power through elections and not through the backdoor, he said. The sanctity of the ballot must be recognised and respected Certain fortune-tellers have forecast that our government wont last for more than three months. They keep on making such baseless predictions and fabricating such groundless stories; they must stop harbouring such dreams. He said the opposition should wait for the next general elections in 2013 instead of resorting to unconstitutional methods, adding that PML-N was worried about PPPs expected success in March 2012 Senate elections. They (opposition) do not want to see the country moving on the democratic track. But we will keep moving on and on. December will come, and so will January, February and March, and we will be here to present the next budget in June, Gilani claimed, adding that PPP would face all the challenges with the power of the masses rather than the government machinery. Some people were projecting demise of the Pakistan Peoples Party after the death of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto but it has survived all the ups and downs. PPP is name of a movement and a mission and it cannot be wrapped up. The opponents are fearful of partys majority in the upcoming Senate elections in March. But this reality will not be denied. We have done every thing under rule of law and constitution. The prime minister said they dont believe in politics of avenge, adding, We havent done any victimisation. There is no political prisoner in any jail in the country. Gilani said PPP stood firm to its manifesto and the Charter of Democrcay (CoD) as per the vision and philosophy of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, adding that PML-N president Nawaz Sharif, one of the signatories of the CoD, had forgotten it. He called upon the opposition to be positive. Recounting his partys achievements, the PM said PPP founder Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the country 1973 constitution and the present government of PPP strengthened the parliament, restored the 1973 constitution as well as all the institutions of the country. We have fulfilled the rights of all the parliamentarians of all the parties and provided funds to them but the Punjab government has not provided funds to our members in Punjab. We have solved the problem of NFC award among the provinces, the PM said and expressed his governments resolve to respect all the institutions. Gilani said that his government was faced with massive electricity and gas crises and other problems but he expressed his confidence that it would overcome all these problems with the help of the masses. He said PPP would not dither on serving the public and strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the country. The premier announced to launch countrywide 'Carvan-e-Tameer from Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin, adding that he would go from Karachi to Khyber to launch development projects. Gilani said PPP government would fulfil all the promises of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto made with the people, adding that the inauguration of energy projects in the area was part of the PPP vision to provide facilities to the masses at their door step. The PM announced a development project for the region and one crore rupees each for cricket stadium in Mandi Bahauddin and an IT project in the schools of NA 109 Malakwal. He also announced Rs30 crore for provision of gas to 12 villages of NA 108. He also inaugurated Malakwal-Gojra Road and construction of Victoria Bridge over river Jhelum near Chak Nizam. He gave approval to construction of Pindi Rawan-Gojra Road, Chot Dheran complex and Mandi Bahauddin Road. Gilani also pledged provision of gas to Mona Depu and Miana Gondal areas. The prime minister, who reached at Raaika village in Phalia tehsil at 2:40pm and at Gojra in Malakwal tehsil at 4pm, also inaugurated 132KV grid station at Phalia. On this occasion, he was accompanied with Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Ahmad Khosa; federal ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira, Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf; ex-ministers Nazar Mohammad Gondal and Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali; the PPP Punjab members Raja Riaz Ahmad, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach and others. However, the residents of tehsil Malakwal regretted ignoring the city and holding of public meeting at Gojra, the village of ex-federal minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal which is some 25 kilometres away from Malakwal city.
