KARACHI - Pakistan Medical Association Sindh, SDWA, All Paramedical and Nursing Associations of Sindh are deeply concerned over the targeted killing of Dr Nisar Sehto, the RMO of Lyari General Hospital.

They said that the government was deaf, and dumb. Dr Nisar Sehto was targeted when he was examining patients in his clinic in Saddar Town.

A general body meeting of all associations was held in Lyari General Hospital on Tuesday in which President PMA Sindh Dr Samrina Hashmi, President SDWA Dr Mujtaba Memon, members of Pakistan Paramedical Association, Pakistan Nursing Association, Peoples Paramedical Association and Sindh Paramedical Association participated.

PMA, the doctors, nurses and paramedics have apprehension that this could be new wave of targeted killing of doctors.

Dr Samrina Hashmi said, “We have been repeatedly demanding concrete steps by the government and police official to stop such incidents in future, but unfortunately nothing has been done to curb this brutality. It looks as if there is no rule of law and writ of the government. It seems like this is some plan to spread Anarchy in the province.”

These incidents create a lot of anxiety amongst the health professionals and their families and patients. Lack of security of life, which they don’t find in Karachi and all over Pakistan, resulted in doctors leaving the country. This is one of the several reasons of deteriorating medical healthcare in Pakistan as a result of which our patients suffer.

PMA Sindh and other bodies of doctors, nurses and paramedics strongly demanded that a coordination committee of high ranked police officials should be formed to investigate these killings and bring culprits to justice. We have been regularly demanding compensation to be paid to the grieved family.

The General Body condemned the attitude of the MPAs, MNAs, and other officials, who did not even bothered to come to Lyari General Hospital to show their respects to the murdered doctor, and to be with health professionals in this hard time. All Hospitals in Sindh will have token strike of one hour from 10am to 11am, for three days, in the 2nd phase from Saturday the token strike will be of 2 hours for another 3 days. After that, all hospitals would be totally shut down if No concrete steps are seen on behalf of the Govt.

On the other hand, president of Sindh Private Hospitals and Clinics welfare association Dr Aziz Khan Tank and General Secretary Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro condemns the brutal murder of Dr Nisar Sahito Night RMO at Lyari General Hospital targeted at his Clinic Lea Market Karachi. We express our sympathy to all the family members of Dr Nisar.

“We strongly demand the security for health providers and immediate arrest of culprits. Otherwise, family physicians and GP’s who are also suffering from such violent acts of the criminals be forced to join the strike call till culprits are arrested and punishment given. Since last many months various medical organizations have registered protest but so far it has not yielded any result, then there is no choice for medical professionals except to adopt the extreme steps.

We also appeal to doctor’s community please keep away your difference and show unity at this moment,” he said.
