KARACHI - A delegation of 52 doctors, midwives, nurses and paramedics has left for Bangladesh to attend international conference on Genital Tract Fistula.

The conference will be held in Ruposhi Bangla Hotel Dhaka from November 13-18.

As many as 64 countries from all over the world are participating in the conference.

The conference will discuss the complications of pregnancy causing genital tract fistula and other problems making women’s life miserable. The conference will also discuss the issues related to child marriage and its impact on family life.

This year the conference has a very special session dealing with Fistula Eradication Programme in Pakistan. Health specialists from Pakistan including, Prof Aziz Abdulla Karachi, Dr Qurban Sehto Khairpur, Prof Ghazal Mahmood Islamabad, Dr Abdul Hakeem Jokhio Nawabshah, Dr Sajjad Ahmed Siddique Karachi, Dr Haq Nawaz Quetta, Prof Pushpa Srichand Hyderabad, Dr Nusrat Shah Karachi, Dr Tayiba Majeed Lahore, Dr Nuzhat Fauqui Karachi, Dr Sadia Rizwan Lahore, Dr Shershah Syed Karachi, Dr Sarwan Kumar Karachi and Prof Farid Zafar Lahore will present papers on issues related to Pakistani women. A special workshop will also be organised to train nurses, midwives, paramedics and theatre technicians on different aspect of women care before and after fistula formation. Two special sessions will deal with ethical aspect of genital tract injury in girl child and rehabilitation of women after repair of fistula.

Countries will share their experiences regarding social rehabilitation of women with failed repair surgery in poor women. The conference is jointly organized by UNFPA, UNICEF, Fistula Foundation and Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dacca Medical College.
