LAHORE – As part of protest campaign, Punjab Paramedics Alliance staged a sit in outside Punjab assembly on Tuesday to press for the demands of service structure, health risk allowance and regularization of contract employees.

Led by Yousaf Billa and other PPA leaders, dozens of paramedics from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology and Services Hospital marched toward PA and staged a sit in at Faisal Chowk for hours, causing massive traffic jam in the heart of the City at peak hours. Carrying placards and banners inscribed with writings in favour of their demands and against the government, paramedics chanted slogans against the bureaucracy.

The speakers said that the CM had ordered secretary health over five months back to resolve problems of paramedics within three weeks. They alleged that the bureaucracy was using delaying tactics and violating CM directions. They further said that the paramedics have no other option except to launch protest for fulfillment of their legitimate demands.

Accommodation for medical students: The Shalimar Medical and Dental College has started construction of a building to house female students.

Chairman of Board of Trustees Ch Ahmad Saeed on Tuesday inaugurated the construction of a six-storey building consisting of 106 rooms for female students. Shahid Hussain, Ibrar A Mumtaz, Dr Khalid Hameed Sheikh, Brig (R) Anis Ahmed, Prof Zahid Bashir and Dr Rashid Ahmed were also present.

Giving details of the project, Imtiaz Ali said that the building has special security arrangements which would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs105 million.
