RPO urges ulema to promote tolerance

SHEIKHUPURA - Regional Police Officer (RPO) Zulfiqar Ali Cheema urged all religious scholars to create harmony, brotherhood and tranquillity among their ranks during Muharram as it was the main objective of Islam and teachings of Holly Prophet (PBUH).He made remarks in a meeting with Peace committee members, Ulema and leaders at District Police Officer  office here on Tuesday. He said that Islam was a universal religion and taught patience and brotherhood. He urged the religious scholars to play their role to promote religious harmony, tolerance and brotherhood in the society and keep a vigilant eye on miscreants during Muharram. District Police Officer Rana Abdul Jabbar also asked the peace committee members and religious leaders to deploy volunteer at all important points to ensure peace. The District Police Officer told the meeting that exhaustive measures in this connection had been adopted and hundreds of police personals accompanied by elite force had been deployed on all prominent religious places to avoid any untoward incident. He said that law enforcement agencies would perform their duties round the clock to check activities of miscreants.He also sought supports from general public to joint hand with security personals in this connection.On this occasion, the Regional Police Officer directed all banners and poster that could incite violence should be removed immediately. The Ulema assured the Regional Police Officer for their cooperation to maintain law and order in the district during Muharram.
