Rawalpindi- The military fighter jets killed at least 30 militants in Tehsil Datta Khel of North Waziristan today morning, military media wing said.

ISPR says in a press release that air strikes were launched in North Waziristan after intelligence of militants’ presence at a camp near Datta Khel. Several hideouts of terrorists were destroyed in the air strikes. Foreign militants were among those who were killed and wounded in today’s strike, ISPR added. Sources have said that key militants’ commander Saifullah was also wounded in fresh attack.

The military launched a large-scale offensive in the North Waziristan tribal district in June in response to a bloody raid by insurgents on Karachi Airport, an attack which ended faltering peace talks between the government and the Taliban.

Militants have taken sanctuary in Khyber after fleeing strongholds in North Waziristan, and troops began a military operation in Khyber in October. The army says it has killed more than 1,100 militants and lost around 100 soldiers since the start of the June operation.
