Islamabad - On the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Ministry of Water and Power has asked all the electricity distribution companies to exempt the industry from load shedding due to shortage of gas in the country. The Discos have been directed to immediately implement the plan.

According to a hand out from Ministry of Water and Power, the decision would be effective till the canal closure in the end of December when the hydel generation goes very low level.

The decision of uninterrupted power supply to industry has been taken in wake of increased industrial activity especially due to grant of GSP Plus status by the European Union (EU)  which has considerably enhanced the country’s exports. The Industrial activity has increased manifold as compared to the previous years.

The Discos have further been directed to implement a load management plan for the domestic consumers during the winter season which would keep the load shedding at minimum level.

The Discos will implement the load management plan according to their own worked out schedule.

This decision has been made on the request of representatives of industrial association and bodies, who expressed their concern over the gas shortage during the winter and requested the government to take appropriate measures in this regard.

It is expected that the decision would have far reaching impact on the overall economic development of the country and creation of job opportunities due to enhanced industrial activity.
