Gas for industries to remain suspended for one day a week

karachi (Staff Reporter): Sui Southern Gas Company Managing Director Shoaib Warsi has announced gas load management plan for the forthcoming winters, under which gas supply for industries will remain suspended for one day in a week. During his visit to Site Association he expressed hope that there would be no problem of gas in the coming winters,  under the 18th Amendment, 100pc of all gas reserves discovered in Sindh would be added to SSGC. Regarding recent low gas pressure in Site industrial area, Shoaib Warsi said that SSGC compressors at Hyderabad tripped which caused low gas pressure.

According to him, these compressors have now been restored and gas pressure will be normal.

Warsi further said that SSGC had installed LPG-Air Mix Plants for various towns of Balochistan and Sindh to supply Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) as an alternate to piped natural gas through gas distribution network. However, he informed that LPG Air mix has not yet been supplied to any part of the Karachi.

Earlier, M. Jawed Bilwani, Chairman, Site Association of Industry underscored the point that SSGC is vital part of a bridge between the policymakers and customers. He termed natural gas as the lifeline of the industry. He stressed that his Association had a major complaint with the gas utility regarding low gas pressure in Site Industrial Area. Bilwani also demanded equal treatment to Site Industrial Area in regard to the provision of gas.

The meeting between MD, SSGC and office bearers of Site Association was also attended by a large number of industrialists of Site area.

CCP invites comments on automobile sector study

islamabad (Staff Reporter): The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has invited public comments on its updated Competition Impact Assessment study of the automobile sector in Pakistan. CCP is mandated to carry out research to improve the understanding of competition issues facing the Pakistan economy and has initiated sectoral Competition Impact Assessment studies of the key economic sectors as a major component of that research effort. The study on Automobile sector can be downloaded from the website of the Commission, and the last date of submitting comments is 8 December 2014.

China to open consulate in Lahore

Lahore (Staff Reporter): The government of China has decided to open Consulate General office in Lahore to meet the visa needs of business community in Punjab. This was announced by the Chinese Consul General Ma Yaou during a meeting with Pakistan Tanners Association delegation at Chinese Consulate office led by Gulzar Firoz, former Chairman and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Diplomatic Affairs, PTA here on Wednesday. While replying to a question, the Consul General assured the members that he will look into the proposal to issue visas to genuine exporters on the recommendation of PTA.

Delegation members also pointed out to the Consul General about 2nd Phase of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) under which the duties of import of leather into China should have now been reduced to zero but Pakistan exporters are still facing 5-10 % duty.

PTA delegation also requested that like other exhibitions PTA may also get some free booths in a major leather exhibitions in China. Consul General assured that he will contact fair organizer and support this case.

WBDC holds 2-day photography workshop for females

PESHAWAR (Staff Reporter): Women Business Development Centre (WBDC) Peshawar has arranged a two-day Skill Workshop on Photography for the young girl students from different colleges and universities. The trainer for the workshop was Irfan Ali, who is an engineer by profession but photography is his passion. He was trained by National Geographic. Among the participants not only young girls from different colleges and universities were there but house wives also participated. The training was very interesting and the participants were impressed by the amazing pictures by Irfan Ali.

In Peshawar the trend and demand of female photographer is rising and young girls are considering to take up there photography hobby as a profession.

The upcoming training session at Women Business Development Centre (WBDC) is on “Marketing Your Business Venture” and scheduled on November 17, 2014.

PBIT participates in Pak-UK energy dialogue 2014

lahore (Staff Reporter): The Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT), Mohammad Ilyas Ghauri would participate in the UK-Pakistan Energy Dialogue 2014, which is being hosted at the Lancaster House, London, UK. He is part of the delegation led by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. While addressing the UK-Pakistan Energy Dialogue, CEO PBIT will inform the participants about investment opportunities in power sector, followed by an introduction and presentation regarding investment opportunities in Solar Power and incentives given by Punjab Government.

     It may be mentioned that the objective of the UK-Pakistan Energy Dialogue 2014 is to assist Pakistan in addressing its energy needs through sharing expertise and best practice in energy sector and facilitating private sector contact that can be developed further by government of Pakistan.
