DEO writes to high-ups against DC’s ‘interference’

MIRPURKHAS - District Education Officer (DEO) Primary Dr Syed Wajid Ali Shah on Monday wrote a letter to Commissioner Mirpurkhas, in which he complained about alleged unnecessary interference by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zahid Hussain Memon in his office’s affairs.

A copy of the letter was also provided to this correspondent while its other copies were sent to the Sindh chief secretary, Sindh chief minister, Sindh School Education and Literacy Department secretary, Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) Karachi chairman, NAB Karachi director general and others in which the DEO sought their intervention in order to put an end to the alleged interference by the DC and his taluka education officers (TEOs) namely Shabbir Ahmed Gujjar and others.

The DEO alleged in his letter that Arif Kerio, taluka education officer primary (male Shujaabad/Hussain Bux Marri) and Nabi Bux Gurgaiz, taluka education officer primary (male) Jhuddo, were involved in serious financial irregularities besides misusing government vehicles.

He lamented that despite asking these officials several times to stop meddling in his work, they did not respond to him; rather they threatened him with dire consequences and also held a press conference against him that was sponsored by Nazeer Panhwer (a local journalist), who was a primary school teacher and was his opponent.

The DEO accused Panhwer of seeking retirement from the government job on fake grounds and speaking against him in media in order to defame him. He said that the press conference addressed by all the three above TEOs was a clear-cut violation of civil servant rules.

He further alleged that Taluka Education Officer Primary (male) Jhuddo Nabi Bux Gurgaiz was shielding his two daughters, who were NTS teachers, from disciplinary action, as they often remained absent from duty as reported by the biometric team, and who were also issued show-cause notices, but they did not respond even once.

The DEO further wrote in the letter that he had received some serious complaints against Nabi Bux Gurgaiz and Shabbir Ahmed Gujjar during his visits to taluka Jhuddo.

He blamed that as District Education Reform Committee Chairman, DC Zahid Hussain Memon had created obstacles in the smooth functioning of his office.

Owing to unnecessary intervention in affairs of his office, academic activities in the district are being affected, he added.

The DEO requested the commissioner to take appropriate action and restore the prestige of his esteemed office.
