LAHORE - A senior PPP leader from Faisalabad has decided to join the PTI ending his years-long association with the party of Bhuttos.
Talking to The Nation on telephone, Rana Aftab said he would announce his formal joining of the PTI in a meeting with PTI chief Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad on Tuesday (today). He said he was not being called in the meetings of the PPP’s central executive committee for the last many years.
A seasoned politician from Faisalabad, Rana has the honour of being elected as member Punjab Assembly for three terms. He was elected member Punjab Assembly for the first time in 1988.
Rana Aftab also served as PPP’s Punjab President and general secretary and also as provincial minister for Planning and Development from 1993 to 1996 when Manzoor Wattoo was the chief minister. He also remained Deputy Parliamentary leader of the PPP in Punjab Assembly from 2005 to 2007. He lost 2008 general elections on a provincial seat from Faisalabad by a narrow margin.
Rana Aftab is yet another addition to the long list of PPP men who have already joined the PTI in the last six years.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Mustafa Khar, Firdous Aashiq Awan, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Raja Riaz, Rana Zahid Tauseef, Nauraiz Shakoor, Samsam Bokhari, Ashraf Sohna and Amir Dogar are among the prominent politicians from the PPP who have joined the PTI in this period.
