Nizami sees Jamaat impartiality in 1946 polls

LAHORE - Syed Maududi was merely a 'Maulvi in eyes of Allama Iqbal, while the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami also gave no importance to the poet-philosopher. Editor-in-Chief The Nation and Chairman Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Majid Nizami said at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan here on Wednesday while quoting from a newly published book 'Hayat-e-Sadeed, authored by KM Azam, the former UN Advisor. The launching ceremony of the book was attended and addressed by many scholars. The book covers biography of Chaudhry Niaz Ali Khan, the founder of Darussalam while the most part of the book criticises the political and religious vision of Jamaat-e-Islami and its founder Syed Maududi. Majid Nizami sees impartiality of Jamaat in 1946 election actually as an opposition to the creation of Pakistan. 'Had there been some decision-making votes of JI and cast against Pakistan, the homeland for Muslims could have not been attained. He, at the same time, added that Syed Maududi were very kind to him and used to call him in his meetings. He said that he had remained punctual reader of Tarjaman-ul-Quran (Monthly magazine launched by Maududi) during his student life. The writer, KM Azam, was of the view that Islamic movements have no role in establishing an Islamic Society. He added that every individual has to make himself according to Islamic teachings to establish an ideal Muslim civilization. He said that the vision of Iqbal was being forgotten after the creation of Pakistan. 'The Iqbals concept of universal Islam was watered down through Maududis philosophy. He, while saying the western culture damaging Islamic values through media, stressed the need for practical steps in spreading Islamic culture. Vice-chairman NPT Dr Rafique Ahmad said that though JI was against Pakistan yet now it was the part of society. He rejected the misconception against the creation of Pakistan. MNA Begum Bushra Rehman appreciated the contents of the book and termed it as the history of Pakistan. She said that the book revealed the facts about many so-called personalities of Pakistan. The other speakers included Mehr Jewan Khan, Dr Ajamal Niazi, Maulvi Jahangir, Dr Amjad Saqib, Prof Ghulam Sarwar Rana and Shahid Rasheed. Chairman Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust Col (r) Jamshed Ahmad Tareen and Rafaqat Riaz also attended the ceremony. They said that Chaudhry Niaz Ali Khan wanted to preach Islam and for the purpose, he established Darussalam after consultation with Allama Iqbal in this regard. They termed the book a great contribution to Pakistan history.
